Learn to Crochet

Welcome to the beginner's course on crochet!

 

In this course, we'll start with the basics and gradually build up your skills, step by step. By the end, you'll have the knowledge and confidence to tackle more complex projects on your own.

 

Throughout the 4 week course, we'll cover essential techniques such as how to hold the hook and yarn and how to create basic stitches. We'll also explore how to read crochet patterns and charts, troubleshoot common mistakes, and finish off your projects neatly.

 

This the ideal course if you've never crocheted before. learning to crochet takes patience and practice, with dedication and perseverance, you'll soon be crocheting like a pro!

 

Now, let's grab our hooks and yarn and dive into the wonderful world of crochet.

Freeform crochet workshop using rope as a medium introduces an exciting twist to traditional crochet techniques. Working with rope opens up new possibilities for texture and structure in your crochet creations. It's a chance to unleash your creativity and create one-of-a-kind pieces that are as functional as they are beautiful.

 

This technique can be used for a range of projects, from small decorative items like coasters, plant hangers to larger functional pieces like baskets, bags, or even cushion covers.

 

This is not a suitable workshop for new beginners, some crochet experience is required. Participants need to be able to work a range of crochet stitches including sl st, dc, htr, tr and dtr. As well as an understanding of creating increases and willing to learn to work without a pattern.

 

All participants will begin working on the same piece, this is approximately the size of a coaster. Once the basic techniques have been worked, participates are free to explore their own creativity and develop their own freeform piece.

Create your own coiled basket using locally harvested pine needles. There are several types of Pines found throughout Canberra and surrounds suitable for basketry. We’ll discuss the difference types, understand how to sustainably harvest, properly store, and prepare pine needles.

 

By the end of the day you will have the skills and knowledge to create a basket from start to finish. We’ll begin by creating a starting coil and using a simple spiral stitch work the basket and shape.

 

This is a beginners workshop, no previous basket weaving experience necessary, just bring yourself.

You’ll receive an electronic guide book as a reference to recreate your own again at home.

 

All materials and tools are provided for on the day to create a small basket.
